THESIS BINDING
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON HOW TO PREPARE YOUR THESIS FOR PRINT
Firstly, the margin size is very important to make sure that nothing gets cut off when your Thesis is printed and bound. We recommend a margin of the following:
Inside Margin – 4cm
Outside margin – 2cm
Top & bottom margins – 2cm
Double Sided Page Printing:
If you would like your thesis printed double sided, you will need to mirror your margins. This means that for every 2nd page of your thesis, the margin needs to be reversed, so it has 2cm on the inside and 4cm on the outside.
This is necessary to allow the print on the back of the spread to be placed away from the binding edge.
Inserting Blank Pages for Double Sided Printing:
If you are doing double sided printing, you will need to add a blank page in certain positions within your document. This will ensure that the start of each chapter is printed on the front, rather than the back of the page. This generally needs to be done at the front of the thesis and at the beginning of chapters, depending on where they fall within the document.
Landscape Page Printing:
The same rules apply for printing of a thesis in landscape orientation as they do for portrait. Sometimes Word doesn’t give you the same flexibility with formatting landscape pages as it does with portrait, so if you have any issues let us know and we can assist.
If you require additional information, or have an unusual layout for your thesis, please contact us and we can advise the best way to provide your file.
